The Alaris Enhanced Demo aka the New & Improved Demo is NOW OUT AND AVAILABLE TO PLAY!!!!!!! If you've been following our devlogs, you know how much the demo has changed since the old version. But for anyone who is new or hasn't been following along, let's talk:
Features
Aside from my blood and remnants of my soul, the New Alaris Demo contains:
- A Customizable Protagonist: Choose your name and pronouns (including a whole new Expanded Pronouns system)
- Personality: Shape your personality with four different traits and watch how the world interacts with it. Punch people, scare people, live your life how You Want!
- Free Time: Choose from four locations and go on a date of your choosing with any of our love interests.
- Affection & Stats Screens: Check how much the LIs are interested in you and what your personality looks like!
- Communicator Interface: Improved messaging and calling features
- Energy Vision: Tap into one of the MC's special abilities to see the different auras of the cast.
- Memories: Revisit free time dates and let our love interests woo you as many times as you'd like.
- Extended Music Room: Listen to the custom Alaris OST
- Partial Voice Acting: Hear the characters come to life through the talented cast for the LIs
- Updated Art Assets: All new sprite, CG, prologue, background, and GUI art (basically Everything looks Different).
Among other things I've done over the last two years that I'm probably forgetting HEEHEE!!
For those who want to see a more extensive journey of how far the demo has come, please follow along below. If you're eager to play the demo now, THEN SKIP THIS AND GO PLAY!!!!
First off, let's talk Free Time. Look how nostalgic it is seeing the old screen!!!! I remember being so proud of the original version, mostly because I scrapped Everything together with my own two hands. But now, with the support of so many generous fans, we've been able to commission so many assets that make the game feel much more polished. Even small things that I've learned through the years, like programming animations in and making more complex screens have made a difference to how Free Time feels.
Not only that, but many of the Free Time dates themselves are different! I've rewritten a good amount of the dates to hopefully showcase the different LIs' personalities better. You can play chess with Fenir, get Close and Intimate with Druk's muscles, live a fairytale scene out with Etza, and, of course, fool around with Kayn.
On top of that, with the new music and even some new VFX (read: shojo bubbles) I coded, the dates feel more romantic (I hope!) and fun <3
The CGs have gone through the most drastic changes to me. I've added panning and a different dialogue screen so that the CGs feel more like scenes out of a show. And, of course, the art is Very Different.
MAN..... my art has gone through changes in the past two years. I remember drawing the OG CG after dusting off my 10-year old tablet and drawing on Krita. Once I was able to afford an iPad and Procreate.... we were So Back.
Aside from this, I've added more choices into the game, partial voice acting, more SFX, VFX, basically no part of the demo went untouched and I got my grubby hands all over everything. It's been a long couple of months getting everything revamped and polished to a level I was happy with. But I hope you all enjoy the new experience and as always, I'm thankful for the support and patience you all have given me over the past two years. Please enjoy the New Enhanced Demo!!

ahhh i hope you liked it if you played it!!! thank you so much for the support always--this past month was a bit rougher on me since it was mostly recovering from the hectic april month ^^; but i'm feeling a lot better now and am excited to get back into the swing of things!

I'm writing this as I play so forgive me if I jump around:
Oh my god. The GUI is so amazing!! It must've taken so much work, and it looks sooo good. The main menu is so pretty, and the hover-codex feature is really cool and useful. The little icons for personality traits are so cute <3
The backgrounds!! The music!! All so stunning. The people you hired are immensely talented at what they do.
Druk is pronounced 'Drook'.....I did not know this. I've been calling him 'Druhk' like a fool djkafj. Sorry Druk I will get your name right from now on o7
The VAs are doing such a great job. They make me feel even closer to the characters than before. Especially Fenir's, though I am biased because he is my favourite :D But I love all of them!! Aisa's voice is also lovely <3
The shadows of the trees falling onto Druk's character sprite during the walk is so immersive, and I haven't seen that effect in many games before. It's really pretty. Your art has improved so much, but still has its unique style that first drew me to the game.
Possible improvements: Obviously this is still a demo and I have no idea what you have planned for the future and maybe you've already considered some of these, but I thought I'd give feedback where I could!
At the end of the personality quiz, when the voice asks you how you'd describe yourself, you can answer with 'Compassionate, Social, Courageous, or Curious'. I think it might be cool if 'Social' was 'Companionable' instead, which essentially means the same thing but makes them all begin with a 'C' haha. Or 'Charismatic'? Obviously it's up to you and makes very little difference in the long run, just a small silly thing I thought of.
The hover-codex colour is a little hard to see. Maybe there could be a toggle for a brighter, more obvious colour in the menu? I'm not colour-blind in any way but my eyesight isn't the best and sometimes I missed words I could hover over.
I don't know if it's possible, but if you could add more save files, I'd definitely appreciate it. I like to have 4-5 pages for each character playthrough but with 12 pages and 6 characters that's only 2 for each of them ;v; I'm a chronic saver because I'm very indecisive haha.
But wow, what an amazing game this is shaping up to be! The characters, the story, the lore... everything is so compelling and intriguing :D I can't wait to see more in the future!
Oh! I forgot to mention how much I appreciate the extended pronoun customisation, and also the ability to pick how people refer to us. I only go by she/her myself, but I actually prefer to be referred to as a 'person/child etc' than a 'woman/daughter'. So it was amazing to be able to do that in game <3

i did make the change in that choice menu that you mentioned; i never realized all the other words start with 'c' haha so very cute to have them all starting with 'c' now ^^
the hover codex color, i'm going to play around with and will hopefully be able to push for the full release. i definitely want to make that feature more accessible but i'm going to have to think a bit on how to code it in. but thank you for the feedback!
for the save/load pages, i'm not sure how to implement it with the gui assets we currently have, so i can't make promises for it. but i'll at the very least try my best to think of a way to implement it for other players like you :)

First of all I'd like to congratulate you on finishing the enhanced demo! I love it all! I am particularly OBSESSED with the UI <3
Second I've found some tiny bugs (I think they're more like errors?) I'm gonna leave them here, I hope that's okay. :)
1.
Kayn spooked Fenir so bad he became a floating torso! (lol) I believe this was the first scene in the library.
2.
This is the second meeting with Kuna'a. The second "their" (highlighted) should be "they".
3.
I think here Aisa's sprite is supposed to be behind Kuna'a's. (The last confrontation before our Central buddies appear.)
I would also like to suggest adding numbering to the "save" and "load" pages since it's quite disorientating not having an indication of which page I'm on.
Otherwise everything else runs super smooth! :D
so sorry for the unbelievably late reply afsolijefi but i just wanted to thank you for playing and leaving this here!! i've cleaned up the bugs you spotted and also added indicators on the save/load screen so it's easier to track which page you're on--i can't believe i missed that detail!
