Browser Build & Walkthrough

Hello gamers!

A couple of key updates for you: 1) a browser version of intertwine is now available, and 2) I have a "walkthrough" for you all for those still struggling to get 4-6 CGs!

Browser Version

Because a couple of you have been asking for an alternative way for intertwine (in case you are unable to play the downloadable version for any reason), I went ahead and made that for you <3 It should be noted that this browser version is going to be limited compared to the downloadable version.

First, there is no music room since that code isn't compatible with a browser version; however, as I said in an earlier post, if you are interested in hearing the OST outside of the game, feel free to hop on over to FaeField Productions Youtube for a playlist!

Second, some variables and functions, such as saving, and/or those that affect future dialogue/scenes don't carry over as well on browser mode. The best way to mitigate this is to finish the game in one playthrough. The game is relatively short, at less than 15k words, so feel free to set aside an hour or two to get through the whole thing in one go!

Third, because it's in browser, there may be general quality of life drops. The game might lag a little bit or not run as smoothly. Unfortunately, while I've optimized it to the best of my availabilities, that's just how the current limitations are. Very sorry!

Lastly, I have no idea how this performs in browser on phones, sorry!!! I'd recommend playing in browser on a desktop/laptop (maybe a tablet? heavy Maybe), since I'm not sure how the game loads on mobile. Unfortunately, an android build is not likely in the near future due to the reconfiguration and testing it would entail (intertwine was initially conceptualized as a very small-scale, contained, "one and done" type of project). Sorry for the disappointment, and I hope you can understand since I'm just one person and have other projects and irl responsibilities <3

In general, I would recommend playing the downloadable version if you are able to, but if that's not possible, this is hopefully a good enough alternative to at least experience the game ^^

Walkthrough

Now, for the mini walkthrough! If you haven't played and/or would like to avoid spoilers, I'd recommend not reading the rest of the devlog <3

For the walkthrough, I'll give the hints in progression of as least spoilery to most spoilery for those who just want hints!

Light Spoilery: Recommended if you haven't reached the "fin." screen

If you have less than 4 CGs and/or have yet to reach the "fin." screen, you have not finished the story! If you'd like to experience the full story, there should be an interactive feature on the main menu after your first playthrough. An animation will clue you in as to what where that feature is located. I'd recommend interacting (read: clicking) on that to experience the rest of the ride!

Medium Spoilery: Recommended if you'd like to get all 6 CGs

If you want more outright spoilers as to how to continue the game, click on the string in the middle of the "Intertwine" logo on the main screen! From there, you will experience four total lives with Van. Remember: the game isn't finished until the "fin." screen appears, so keep clicking the string until you reach that :)

There is only one ending in intertwine (something something soulmates, destined to be together, etc.). However, the last row of CGs are all variations of the final CG! If you'd like to get all six, I'd recommend switching up where you'd like to go in the first playthrough. For the specific choice that is, please refer below to Heavy  Spoilery

Heavy Spoilery: Recommended if you'd like to see all dialogue variations

If you are a true completionist and want to experience the entire story, here are some key choices that will impact dialogue you receive in future lives:

Choice 1 (in Life 1): Affect which CGs you get, and where you end up going on your 3rd and 4th lives

"I pointed to a picture of a---"

  • Mountain range
  • Flower field
  • Riverside

Choice 2 (in Life 1): Affect whether you "like cheesy pickup lines" in the 4th life

Van: "Depends. Did it work?"

  • Yes
  • No

I believe those are the only two that will impact future lives. However, there are no wrong choices in intertwine (something something soulmates, feel free to be yourself, van loves you no matter what, etc.). So feel free to experiment and see all the different ways Van reacts to you in any of the choices! All choices simply lead to dialogue variations, rather than "wrong" or "right" branches <3

I believe that is it from me! Again, thank you all so much for the support and love you have been giving intertwine. It's been very rewarding to see how it has stuck with and comforted some of you ^^ Happy playing!

If possible, I would appreciate a choice-based walkthrough if that makes sense? Like choices that strictly show what to choose to get all cgs. Please and thank you. Again, only if possible. I am very OCD apologies.

no problem! no need to apologize at all <3 the reason i didn’t upload a purely choice based walkthrough is because if you want to get all CGs, simply change your response to the first choice in the very first life, aka

When Van asks you which picture you like in the bookstore, choose:

1) riverside (riverside variation of the final cg)

2) flower field (flower field variation of the final cg)

3) mountains (mountain variation of the final cg)

all other cgs naturally unlock as you progress through the game regardless of choice!

Thank you so much now I understand :) For some reason I just wasn't able to understand what the first walkthrough meant but now I do!

special thanks to all of the people that worked on this game. This game was so good that it made me teehee irl. I love that the start of the life aren't all the same. The fate really felt like a soft string and not a chin that bounds the couple. The writing made me felt look forward and have continues hype for the next life. Rather than going with the same pattern. This trope may look easy to write but to be consistent of making each life have things felt new but already happened in the past life is a challenge in my opinion.

This made me giggle, roll eyes (in a good way), blush, sob, and be teary-eyed. I love it. I love the whole concept of the game. It was clever to use the UI as part of the whole game. And the music player??? I'm so at awe how pretty it was and how it was such a marvelous idea, adding to the overall aesthetic of the game.

And Van??? LET'S NOT TALK ABOUT HOW I WANT TO HAVE A MAN LIKE THIS IN MY LIFE. Even the banter with him felt so natural that I even rolled eyes (in real life) at him (and surprise surprise, MC rolled eyes as narrated as well!). Dang. He's making me fall in love with "love". Like... that warm and fuzzy feeling inside of the feeling of being in love (even when I'm single lol).

I love everything about this, and despite it being short, it didn't leave me unsatisfied. In fact, I felt full by consuming this whole game in less than an hour... And to think it's free. Thank God for creators like you.

ahhh!! thank you so much for the sweet review! honored to have filled you with so many different emotions HAHA. also thank you for appreciating the music player---i worked really hard on that code and almost kicked myself for adding it so close to the jam deadline. but i'm glad i did since a couple people have told me they like it ^^

"loving love" is definitely the central theme/message of intertwine, so i am so happy that's a feeling you walked away with after playing!! although van makes it easy to feel that way given how charming he is, haha. thank you again for playing and leaving such a kind review! it means the world and makes the whole endeavor that much more rewarding :')

Aww. I'm glad you added the music player!!

Also, I apologize, I just realized I've commented on the wrong thread for the review T_T. But I'm happy to know my review meant something. I hope you can continue working on more games and that your passion and hard work will be repaid.

I'm such a fan of the soulmate trope. I started bawling when he said he'd pick her every time. "Always." I loved that instead of a sprite there was a hand, I loved the thread, I love his meta memory, I loved that the background music had whispers that made you kind listen hard for it, as hard as you try to remember a memory.  You're wonderful, thank you for writing this, and producing it, and getting it all together.
